Woodworking
This was a project I did in my Design II class. This project allowed me to learn about woodworking for the first time. I learned about the different tools used, different joints, and even different types of wood finishes. I wanted to create something I could use later, so I made this small storage box. I wanted a bit of a challenge for this project, so I decided to do finger joints on the edges. While learning how to create finger joints, I discovered the importance of precise measurements in ensuring all the joints fit properly and look clean. I painted the box at first, but I didn’t like it anymore because I couldn’t see the wood grain or the finger joints that I had worked on. So I removed the paint and added a light layer of wood stain to give it a bit of a rustic look. I had never used wood stain before, so this was definitely a learning experience for me. It was a memorable experience learning how to use the different types of saws, cutting different shapes into the wood, using different finishes, etc.
