Escape

Escape was a project that I did in my second year of college while I was taking Drawing II at Dallas College. For this project we were told to create a self-portrait that represents us in some way. I chose to create this drawing because it perfectly portrays how books give me an escape from the real world, and I can be in a world of my own that is untouched by others. In this drawing you can see a girl sitting inside a snow globe reading a book and the snow globe is under a spotlight. The snow globe in the spotlight is meant to represent the expectations people in my life have of me. I’m expected to be this perfect person who has my life put together and looking pretty, just like a snow globe. Being in the spotlight represents always being watched and analyzed constantly by people around me. The girl reading inside the snow globe shows how, when I’m reading, I forget the real world and everyone’s expectations and just let myself get absorbed in the world of the characters in the book. No one can touch that world shielded by the glass of the snow globe.
